brugge, bruges, whatever it's called 2004-04-21 -- 4:59 p.m. i feel like i'm in robin hood. brugge, or however you spell it (there are many ways), is like a fairytale land come to life. there are scenic castles, canals with beautiful bridges, swans, horse-drawn carriages, and most noticably, a whole lot of people who look like they were alive in robin hood's time. in short, brugge is the exact opposite of amsterdam. and not too similar to canada, either. in toronto, the main concern is cars (this becomes apparent after walking on cobblestones for a while). roads are paved an ugly gray pavement and the land is dominated by parking lots, cars, and more parking lots for all the huge cars. in brugge, cars seem a nuisance and have to give way to scooters, bikes, and pedestrians. and i like that. it's very beautiful here and just the place to go after two and a half weeks of ruthless travel. i'm glad we made it here to taste the delectible chocolates, the amazing fries, and best of all, the delicious (i mean delicious) crepes and waffles. MMM i am STUFFED. we stayed in a hostel on rosana's recommendation and may i say that the bauhaus hostel is THE best hostel? it's really nice, not to mention cheap. good call, rosana! alright. now i'm off to eat some more truffles, then tomorrow, it's off to our last stop - brussels. can't wait! |
